Throughout their shifts, police officers recover property in a variety of different forms. Citizens often turn in found property, officers seize evidence at the scene of a crime, or we recover stolen property that eventually is returned to the owner after any prosecution is completed.
This begins an intricate records keeping function. All property is kept under very strict security and is tracked by computer, bar coding and paper record back-up. Once a court case is completed, the property could be destroyed (i.e, drugs or illegal weapons), returned to the owner, or auctioned off if no owner can be identified.
Property is only released with a prior appointment.
Days and times for release of property are Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm and Friday, 9:30 to 11 am.
The lobby is closed alternate Fridays and holidays.
Please be sure to call ahead to schedule an appointment and check if your property is eligible for release.
Please call our Evidence Officer If you have questions about your property we are holding at 805-525-4474, ext. 113. If there is no answer, leave the Evidence Officer a detailed message and you will be called back promptly.
