Arte & Cultura Collective of Santa Paula Presents Bursting with Color: Downtown Youth Banner Celebration

Santa Paula, CA – The Arte & Cultura Collective of Santa Paula is thrilled to announce the launch of Bursting with Color: Downtown Youth Banner Celebration, an exciting project that aims to engage and showcase the artistic talents of children, youth, and teens in Santa Paula. The project will provide a platform for young artists to express themselves, foster creativity, and celebrate the cultural heritage of our community.

As a newly formed group, Arte & Cultura Collective of Santa Paula is dedicated to bringing together all forms of the arts within our vibrant community. We seek to celebrate, preserve, and promote the rich cultural heritage that defines our beloved Santa Paula collectively. We invite everyone to join us on this exciting journey as we strive to create a world where creativity knows no limits. Together, we can establish Santa Paula as a shining beacon of artistic expression, attracting artists and enthusiasts from near and far.

“The Bursting with Color project is a testament to our commitment to promoting the arts, fostering community pride, and nurturing a sense of belonging among our youth,” said Lyzette Cornejo, Management Fellow for the City of Santa Paula who is helping to lead this initiative. “By displaying their artwork in prominent public spaces, we aim to create an inclusive and vibrant atmosphere that encourages interaction between the young artists and the wider community. The celebration also coincides with the upcoming Ventura County 150th Anniversary Festival, making it an ideal opportunity to celebrate the diversity, local history, and traditions.”

Participation in the Bursting with Color project is open to all Santa Paula area residents, including children and youth ages 5-12 and teens ages 13-18. Artwork will be accepted and displayed on a first-come, first-serve basis, and reviewed by the Arte & Cultura Collective of Santa Paula Art Advisory Committee. With space for up to 70 banners, we invite young artists to seize this chance to have their work showcased for free throughout the downtown area.

To be eligible, original artwork must fit within the dimensions of an 8.5x14 inch (legal size) paper. Application packets, including a legal size paper, can be obtained at City Hall, the Train Depot, the Santa Paula Youth Center, the Santa Paula Art Museum, the Santa Paula Agriculture Museum, and the Santa Paula Community Center during normal operating hours.

Artists are encouraged to create artwork that represents the Santa Paula community or Ventura County, incorporating themes such as historical monuments, nature, coastal beauty, land conservation, indigenous cultural heritage, climate, or community-youth interaction. Three-dimensional pieces and photographs are not eligible, but digital art is allowed, with digital submissions conforming to the 8.5x14 inch dimensions.

Submissions can be made by uploading the entry form online or by dropping off the physical artwork at 970 E Ventura St, Santa Paula, CA 93060, attention: Lyzette Cornejo. The deadline for submission is June 30, 2023, at 11:59 PM PST.

Accepted artwork will be proudly displayed in downtown Santa Paula, including Mill Street and 10th Street, for approximately two months as part of the Bursting with Color: Downtown Youth Banner Celebration. This remarkable celebration coincides with the Ventura County 150th Anniversary Festival, which will take place on October 21, 2023.
